Paradox was the Commander of a squadron of warriors the God Zeus created to protect him and the other Gods. For long centuries this squadron of warriors fought for Zeus and the Greeks. Until one of their own betrayed them. Pandora, a fellow warrior, jealous of the growing status of her bretheren stole a box full of demons from the Treasury of Hades and unleashed it upon the world.
In retribution for failing in their duty, Zeus cursed his warriors to house the demons Pandora had loosed. One by one the immortal warriors were banished from the heavens, sent to live on earth among mortals but not mortal themselves.
Each became a host to one of the demons who escaped Pandora's Box.
Each immortal merged with a demon into one being. Two parts of a whole that would die one without the other. Paradox lead her squadron into the mortal world, building a fortress in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. The fortress became known by the locals as Purgatory Keep and those who lived within known as the Lords of Hell.
The human populace soon began to blame these warriors for every wrong, death, sadness and misery that was visited upon them and their families. They refused to take responsibility for free will.
The humans became divided into those who believed the warriors were angels and those who believed them to be the demons they were. In present day, a faction has cropped up known to the Lords only as Hunters. It is the mission of these mortals, lead by the Demon of Hope whom they believe to be an angel sent from Heaven, to destroy the Lords and thus free humanity from all of Hell's evils.
